Our Projects

We do our BEST

Biological and psychosocial factors of progressive phase of human development as determinants of adult height and health: effects of factors related to pre- and postnatal growth, stress and mental health in childhood and adolescence on body size and health in adulthood is examined in the research.

Prevalence and etiology of obesity in children and adolescents: obesity is considered currently a global epidemic. The rate of obesity increases also in pediatric population. In this research we are searching for biological, psychological and social risk factors for excessive weight gain. The results may contribute to the development of more effective obesity prevention programs

Genes and deficits in executive functions as risk factors of obesity in children with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD: Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder significantly increases the risk for overweight and obesity in children, adolescents and adults. The background of the ADHD and obesity co-occurrence remains unknown. The project is aimed to test hypotheses of shared genetic and neuropsychological determination of both disorders.

Perinatal outcome of offspring as the effect of interactions of the foetus-mother-environment system: distinguish a group of factors that significantly condition the course of prenatal ontogenesis, indication of mutual interactions between the singled out factors and determination of the hierarchical structure of their effect

Biological and socio-economic determinants of fetal developmental length: distinguish a group of factors that significantly affect the duration of intrauterine development, estimation of population differences in the incidence of preterm births.

The impact of perinatal outcome on the course of growth processes in the early stages of progressive development: compensatory growth - catch-up growth and catch-down growth.

The body's somatic, emotional and behavioural persistent stress responses in children aged 3-7: a comprehensive prospective study on the relationship between psychosocial stressors (exposure to persistent stress) and physical growth, physical health outcomes and health-related quality of life in exposed children.

Trends over time in female reproductive patterns: a comprehensive cross-sectional survey on temporal changes in female reproductive history traits such as age at menarche, the timing of first and subsequent live births, proto- and inter-genetic intervals and associated explanatory factors.
