Our Projects

We do our BEST

Biological structure of human populations in transition. Analysis of morphological effects of developmental disturbances in early phases of ontogeny by socio-economic (SES) factors – an epigenetic perspective.

Biology of human skeletal populations from Central and Eastern Europe. Recognition, description, and explanation of biological processes and phenomena in skeletal human populations shaped by biocultural factors.

Analysis of biological state of children in medieval populations. Living environment, territorial and social origins, and the role of cultural factors.

Populations of nomads and early farmers – influence of different adaptive strategies on the biological state and dynamics of skeletal populations from Central and Eastern Europe.

Funerary taphonomy in human skeletal populations – a biocultural perspective. Application of taphonomic analyses in interpretation of burial rituals and in forensic anthropology issues.

Genetic diversity of human populations in Central-Eastern Europe from the Mesolithic Period to the Middle Ages. Analyses of intra- and inter-population diversity including genetic composition and dynamics of the groups as well as the influence of biocultural factors. The project deals with the analysis of the formation of Post-Paleolithic societies.

Methodological aspects of aDNA studies: development of genomic libraries enrichment techniques and analyses of NGS data and their use for reconstructing kinship patterns and origin of ancient human populations as well as the study of genetic markers associated with phenotypic traits and genetic disorders.
